If repetition is an effective teaching tool, God, through Isaiah, is a master! Ten times in the span of four chapters, Isaiah pounds into our awareness: There is no other God but Yahweh.
I, even I am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. (Is 43:11)
โThis is what the Lord saysโIsraelโs King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. (Is 44:6)
Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one. (Is 44:8)
I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me. (Is 45:5)
So that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. (Is 45:6)
Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other god. (Is 45:14)
For this is what the Lord saysโhe who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabitedโhe says: โI am the Lord, and there is no other.” (Is 45:18)
Declare what is to be, present itโlet them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. (Is 45:21)
Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. (Is 45:22)
Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me. (Is 46:9)
Paul, in his epistle to the Corinthians makes it even more clear exactly who we are talking about:
We know that โAn idol is nothing at all in the worldโ and that โThere is no God but one.โ For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many โgodsโ and many โlordsโ), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. (1 Cor 8:4โ6)
He is King, Redeemer, LORD Almighty, Lord of Hosts, First and Last, Rock, Maker, Creator, Holy One, Savior, ShepherdโThe LORD alone. Don’t forget it!
