Advent 2023 First Sunday: Wonderful Counselor

My Advent ponderings this year are inspired by my recent study of Isaiah and one of the most beloved descriptions of the character of the Messiah. We begin with "Wonderful Counselor."

Remember God Is With Us

The nation of Judah faced an impending invasion from two neighboring nations. This threat left them shaking like the trees in the forest in a windstorm. So King Ahaz made an alliance with an even larger nationโ€”Assyriaโ€”rather than run to the Holy One, God Almighty. Then God gave Ahaz and Judah a promise, a sign, a reminder that he had not abandoned them and they should rely on him alone.

Word of the Year 2023: With

For the past few years, I've chosen a word for the year. It's not magical or profound. Rather, it's a way for me to focus on something God is laying on my heart.

Advent 2022 Fourth Sunday: With Us

My advent mediations are inspired by my recent study of 2 Corinthians which ended with a beautiful benedictionโ€”the only one that mentions all three persons of the Trinity. First, I looked at grace, then love, and fellowship. Today we focus on God with us.

Advent: Immanuel, King, Shepherd, Son, Savior

This Advent season, I focused on the descriptors of Jesus found in Matthewโ€™s account of the Christmas events.
